A life of servitude: The Rev. Edward M. Deliman, a former pastor at St. Martin of Tours in Oxford Circle, was ordained as an auxiliary bishop.
Archbishop Charles J. Chaput last week ordained the Rev. Edward M. Deliman, a former pastor at St. Martin of Tours in Oxford Circle, as an auxiliary bishop.
The ceremony took place in front of a capacity crowd at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
Auxiliary Bishop Nelson J. Perez, of Rockville Centre, New York, a former pastor at St. William in Lawncrest, served as co-consecrator.
Deliman’s specific duties as an auxiliary bishop will be defined in the coming weeks. Like all bishops, auxiliaries are successors to the Apostles.
Deliman, 69, is the 27th auxiliary bishop in the history of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. He joins the three current auxiliary bishops: the Revs. Timothy C. Senior, Michael J. Fitzgerald and John J. McIntyre.
Born in Ohio and grandson of immigrants from Slovakia, Deliman moved with his family to Morrisville, Bucks County in the early 1950s. He graduated from Holy Trinity Grammar School, then attended Bishop Egan High School for two years before entering St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Deliman was ordained to the priesthood by John Cardinal Krol on May 19, 1973.
In 1991, St. Pope John Paul II named him a monsignor.
At present, he is pastor at St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Bensalem. ••
