Man charged in shooting, robbery

A teenager wanted by police for allegedly taking part in the shooting and robbery of a take-out food delivery man in Southwest Philadelphia in June has been arrested in Frankford.

Police captured Donovan Daniels, 17, in the area of Bridge Street and Torresdale Avenue last Friday after a tipster provided information about the suspect’s location. Daniels saw officers approaching him and allegedly attempted to run, but police caught him after a brief foot pursuit.

Daniels, of the 5700 block of Warrington Ave. in the city’s Elmwood section, was charged as an adult with attempted murder, robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy and related crimes. His bail was set at $2 million.

On June 6 at about 10:17 p.m., police in the 12th district found a 34-year-old man on the 1600 block of S. 59th St. with a gunshot wound of the head. He was admitted to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition.

The victim said he was making a food delivery on the 5700 block of Beaumont St. when Daniels and another male approached him. The other suspect, whose identity was not disclosed by police, pointed a gun at the victim and forced him to drive to an unknown location. Daniels and his accomplice allegedly demanded money from the victim and forced him to exit the car and to get on his knees. One of the robbers then shot the victim in the back of his head.

The victim managed to run to the spot where police found him. His car, cell phone and wallet containing $60 were stolen in the robbery. His car was later recovered on the 1700 block of S. 57th St.

The other suspect was described as black with a light complexion, in his middle 20s, with a black shirt and blue jeans. ••
