May Fair includes race, car show

The Mayfair Business Association is planning the annual Mayfair May Fair, set for Saturday, May 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

The day will start with a Fallen Heroes 5K Run and Walk, with registration at 7:15 a.m. at Mayfair Memorial Playground, Rowland Avenue and Vista Street. The run/walk will start at 8:30. To pre-register, go to mayfairrun.com

The Gas Guzzlers Car Club will hold a show starting at 11 a.m. The band Jamison will perform beginning at noon. There will also be Greater Pennsylvania Military Historical Society vehicles, a 15th Police District Advisory Council information table, a game train, a Grey Lodge beer garden, food trucks and crafters.

The Philly Soft Pretzel Factory will present its annual customer appreciation day at Frankford and Bleigh avenues. The Insectarium will release monarch butterflies, weather permitting. Most of the activities will take place along Frankford Avenue, between Cottman Avenue and Sheffield Avenue.

In other news from the Mayfair Business Association meeting:

• The Mayfair Business Improvement District has hired Sam Siegel, who worked for the city Department of Commerce, as its executive director.

• The Mayfair Monarch Project is looking for volunteers to plant milkweed and other flowers in Mayfair, Tacony, Wissinoming, Holmesburg and other neighborhoods. Call 215–335–9500 or visit the Mayfair Monarch Project page on Facebook.

• The Pennypack Music Festival will begin on May 11. This season, there will be 12 shows on Wednesdays through Sept. 7 at the bandshell near the park entrance at Welsh Road and Cresco Avenue.

• The Mayfair Business Association will meet again on Thursday, June 9, at 10 a.m. at Berkshire Hathaway, 7341 Frankford Ave. ••
