Art competition deadline approaching
The Philadelphia Federal Credit Union is sponsoring its fifth annual art competition to coincide with National Financial Literacy Month.
PFCU’s “Picture of Success Art Contest” is open to Philadelphia-area students in grades 3–5 and is designed to teach children how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. Each student will submit a work of art that depicts one of their financial goals, and winners of the contest will receive prizes for their entire classroom, along with a personal $100 savings account.
The deadline to submit entries is April 30.
All Philadelphia-area students in grades 3–5 are eligible to participate, regardless of having a membership at PFCU. Once all entries are submitted, a committee will select 10 finalists.
On May 9, the artwork from the finalists will be posted on PFCU’s Facebook page for the public to vote on through May 23.
Two winners will be announced on PFCU’s Facebook page on May 24.

Penny Party planned at All Saints Rhawnhurst

Wizard World offering drawing

Hopeful Eagle Scout seeks assistance
Joseph Doherty, a 17-year-old member of Boy Scouts Troop 290 in Fox Chase, seeks the community’s help on his Eagle Scout project.
On Saturday, April 16, Doherty will hold a collection for Lisa’s Army, which provides care packages to cancer patients. The collection will be at the Fox Chase Recreation Center baseball field, 7901 Ridgeway St. from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The collection will coincide with the opening of the Fox Rok baseball season.
Items needed include hand sanitizer, unflavored lip balm, PBA-free water bottles, journals, activity and coloring books, socks with grips on the bottoms, travel-size tissues, eyebrow pencils, hard candy, crayons, playing cards, travel-size games, new or handmade blankets.

Tickets available for Jazz Age summer musical

Church collecting food for NE residents in need
Faith Lutheran Church is trying to collect 2,000 pounds of food to help the 2,000 Northeast Philadelphia families registered for hunger assistance with Feast of Justice Ministries. Faith Lutheran, at 4150 Woodhaven Road, will collect food for this cause during its third annual Neighborhood Day on Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Non-perishable items will be collected. Feast of Justice distributes food to about 250 families weekly, giving away over 8,000 pounds of food each year. Volunteers log over 11,000 hours annually to staff the food cupboard. Parishioners at Faith Lutheran donated over 1,400 pounds of food to the program last year.
In addition to the food drive, Neighborhood Day will include a flea market, moon bounce, craft table, bake sale and free hotdogs. ••

Trip planned for Lancaster
The Jeanes Hospital Auxiliary is coordinating a trip to Lancaster to see Sight & Sound’s Show Spectacular Samson on Wednesday, April 20.
The trip will also include a luncheon smorgasbord at the Bird-N-Hand Restaurant.
A bus will pick up people at the main entrance of Jeanes Hospital, 7600 Central Ave., at 10:30 a.m. It will depart for home at 5:15 p.m.

Widow to hold healing session
Donna Glatz, widow of slain Lawncrest jeweler William Glatz, will hold Heal Your Heart From Loss at the Free Library of Northampton Township, 25 Upper Holland Road in Richboro, on Wednesday, April 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Glatz will share the story of her husband’s murder. William Glatz was shot to death in 2010 during a robbery attempt inside his jewelry store at 6435 Rising Sun Ave.
