Solomon is challenging veteran Rep. Mark Cohen in the Democratic primary. Cohen beat Solomon by 158 votes in 2014.

“With Harrisburg at a gridlock, we need representatives, like Jared Solomon, to get things done,” said John Kane, business manager of Local 690. “Jared has proven to be a great leader and with this endorsement, the Plumbers Union Local 690 commits to standing 100 percent with Jared Solomon’s campaign for state representative”

“Working families are a strong part of the fabric of this city,” Solomon said, “As state representative, I plan on putting working families first to ensure that there are jobs available for the men and women of the 202nd district.”

Solomon is a lawyer, U.S. Army Reserve officer and president of the Take Back Your Neighborhood civic association. He was previously endorsed by the Philadelphia Firefighters’ and Paramedics’ Union, Local 22.

The National Coalition of Latino Officers announced its endorsement of Democratic mayoral nominee Jim Kenney.

The coalition praised Kenney’s plan to grow trust between communities and law enforcement in a statement.

“Jim Kenney’s plans to improve the relationship between community members and police show that he has a real understanding of the issue at hand,” said Antonio Hernandez, president of the NCLO. “His focus on increasing recruitment diversity, creating a municipal ID program, instituting focused deterrence, and ending arbitrary stop and frisk policies are key to the public safety of Philadelphia. We look forward to working with him to protect and serve this great city.”

“The National Coalition of Latino Officers is a crucial partner in bridging the gap between law enforcement and the communities they serve.” Kenney said. “I am proud to have their endorsement, and I look forward to working with them to ensure that Philadelphians feel safe and respected in every neighborhood.”

The top Democratic member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland, announced his opposition to the Obama administration’s nuclear agreement with Iran.

“Another Democratic leader has put aside politics and come out against this dangerous deal with Iran,” said Steve Kelly, campaign spokesman for U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey. “And yet, Katie McGinty has been unwilling to provide any thoughts on the agreement, let alone her actual position. Conversely, Congressman Joe Sestak is continuing his efforts to align himself with the liberal left-wing of his party by mimicking President Obama’s talking points in support of this reckless agreement and downplaying the risks this deal poses to our national security and that of our allies around the world.”

U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle is among 14 House Democrats opposed to the deal.

Megan Sweeney, communications director for the state GOP, is faulting both Democrats running in the Senate primary on the Iranian nuclear deal.

“Congressman Joe Sestak has made his position clear, he is standing by the liberal wing of the Democrat Party, instead of most Pennsylvanians, by supporting the Obama administration’s reckless pact with Iran. When will Katie McGinty decide to take a stand on President Obama’s disastrous Iran deal? Ms. McGinty’s continued refusal to take a stand on the Obama administration’s disastrous deal with Iran is simply unacceptable at this point. Pennsylvanians deserve to know if she will stand with liberal Democrats in supporting Obama’s bad deal with Iran,” Sweeney said.

The pressure on McGinty to take a stand on the proposed Iran nuclear deal will only increase now that U.S. Sen. Bob Casey has announced his support for the accord.

McGinty finished a distant fourth among four candidates in the 2014 Democratic primary for governor. She served six month as chief of staff to Gov. Tom Wolf before resigning to run for Senate.

Republican Emil Giordano, who is running for Superior Court, has earned the endorsement of the PEG PAC, the affiliated political action committee of the Pennsylvania Business Council.

“Judge Giordano would bring to the Superior Court a wealth of trial court experience that will serve him well as an appellate court judge,” said David W. Patti, president and CEO of the PBC.

“I am very proud to have the support of PEG PAC, an organization I greatly respect for their efforts to strengthen Pennsylvania’s business community,” Giordano said. “PEG PAC is an incredibly important endorsement for my campaign, and I am excited to add them to my list of supporters.”

Giordano has also been endorsed by the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police and Pennsylvania Associated Builders and Contractors’ Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter, and has earned the “recommendation” of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Firearms Owners Against Crime and LIFEPAC.

Giordano serves on the Northampton Court of Common Pleas, a position he has held since 2003. Prior to being elected, Judge Giordano served as an assistant district attorney, assistant public defender, civil litigator and as lead counsel in his private law practice. He resides in Bethlehem with his wife, Tina, and his two sons, Joseph and Caden.

The Democratic candidate is Alice Beck Dubow, a Philadelphia Common Pleas Court judge. ••
