Italian festival at Our Lady of Consolation

Our Lady of Consolation Church, at 7056 Tulip St. in Tacony, will hold its annual Feast of the Saints/Italian Festival on Sunday, Sept. 13.

The day will start with a multicultural Mass at 11 a.m.

The festival will run from 12:30 to 7 p.m. It will include Moonbounces, water slides, children’s rides and games, dancing, homemade Italian food, Italian novelties, trip raffles and live music by Nothing 2 Prove and Civic Minded Fools. Discount haircuts at Creations

Creations Unisex Hair Salon, 6632 Frankford Ave. (near Fanshawe St.) in Mayfair, is celebrating its new location by giving free back-to-school haircuts to children through Thursday, Sept. 10. Haircuts for Blessed Trinity students are $5 throughout the school year and summer. The shop also provides 10-percent discounts to members of St. Timothy Parish. On Tuesdays, a wash and cut for senior citizens costs $10.

Block party Saturday at veterans home

The Delaware Valley Veterans Home, 2701 Southampton Road, will host a block party on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The day will feature live music by the Asylum Wind Band. Other activities will include a clown, face-painting, games, a flea market, a car show and a bake sale.

Car show entries can arrive at 10 a.m. There is no fee to enter a car, and trophies will be given to the top 10 winners. Call 215–856–2700. ••

Community Day at Holmesburg Baptist

Holmesburg Baptist Church, 7927 Frankford Ave., will host a community day event on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The day will include children’s crafts, school supplies giveaways, snacks, beverages, community devotional time and a pastoral prayer. Call 215–338–1775. ••

Driscoll holding open house

State Rep. Mike Driscoll (D-173rd dist.) is inviting area residents to attend the grand opening of his new constituent service office.

The grand opening ceremony will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7104 Torresdale Ave.

Light refreshments will be available. In addition, Driscoll’s staff will be on hand to assist constituents with any questions they might have about state resources and programs.

Beginning Sept. 14, the office will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and can be reached at 215–333–9760.

Philadoptables fundraiser is Saturday

Philadoptables will hold a Designer Bag Bingo fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 1492 Woodbourne Road in Levittown. The cost is $25 per person. There will be raffles and door prizes. Anyone who brings dog and cat food and treats will receive additional raffle tickets.

Free Shoe Saturdays at Famous Footwear

Famous Footwear opened a new store in the Northeast Town Center at 4640 Roosevelt Blvd.
