Woman held at gunpoint during home invasion

Three robbers broke into a Northeast home, held a woman resident at gunpoint and ransacked the place on Sept. 18, Philadelphia police say.

Nobody was injured, but the invaders threatened to kill the 33-year-old victim, according to news reports. Police said the break-in occurred at about 1 a.m. on the 2800 block of Shipley Road. According to the official account, the woman was in her bedroom when three unknown men burst through the door and demanded her money and jewelry.

The men pulled the woman out of bed, pointed a revolver at her back and forced her downstairs, where they ordered her to lay down on the dining room floor and placed a bath mat over her face, police said. The men ransacked the house and made off with $800 cash, a pocketbook, a purse, ID cards and credit cards.

Police said that the men kicked in a basement door to enter the house and that they fled through sliding glass doors into the backyard.

Broadcast reports quoting a police commander at the scene stated that the woman heard noises in her basement and went downstairs to find the intruders. Also, two children were asleep in their bedrooms throughout the ordeal, according to news reports.

All three robbers were described as black men. One is about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium complexion. He wore blue jeans and a paint ball-style black mask. A second suspect is 6 feet tall with a stocky build and dark complexion. No further information was available about the third robber.
