Police are investigating a strange incident that occurred Wednesday night on the 3600 block of Newberry Road in the Far Northeast.

The homeowner, a 53-year-old woman, initially told police she heard a knock at her front door around 9:20 p.m. A masked man tried to force his way inside, but she was able to push him back. When she peeked out the door to see if he had left, the man had a gun out and forced his way in, police said.

Authorities were told the woman’s daughter-in-law came up from the basement and yelled at the man, who then fled out the front door.

Meanwhile, a second man was spotted running through the living room before exiting through the same door. It’s unclear how he got inside the house, police said.

The homeowner saw a total of three men jump into a dark-colored minivan and head north toward Woodhaven Road, police said.

Investigators said it’s likely the house was targeted. The Newberry Road property was raided by state narcotics agents in January 2019, and the homeowner is no longer cooperating with authorities, said Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum, of Northeast Detectives.

Rosenbaum said it’s unclear exactly what happened at the house that night, but there was some kind of disturbance.

No one in the home was injured, according to authorities. ••
