Photos, tips lead to bank robber arrest

Gerald Riley apparently didn’t bother too much with a disguise. He wore a Nike T-shirt, Eagles cap and a thin moustache when he robbed the Santander Bank at 6836 Torresdale Ave. in Tacony on Nov. 4, authorities claim.

One day after the hold-up, Philadelphia police and the FBI released surveillance images of the suspect, including full-color photos of his face, to the news media. The tips came pouring in.

Members of the police Highway Unit caught up with Riley on a SEPTA bus in the Far Northeast later on Nov. 5. He looked “almost identical” to the man in the surveillance images, except he had apparently shaven that cheesy moustache. Eventually, investigators allegedly found the stolen money and Riley’s robbery clothing at his girlfriend’s home. Now Riley, 32, of the 6100 block of Cottage St. in Wissinoming, is facing robbery, theft and related charges. ••
