Thieves swipe car batteries from auto shop

Forget about petty change in the console, a couple of unidentified men took the theft-from-auto concept to a new devious level earlier this month when they raided a Northeast auto repair yard and stripped several cars of their batteries.

The break-in occurred at Max’s Auto, 7000 Oxford Ave., on May 17. At about midnight, two men entered the yard and went under the hoods of several cars to remove the batteries. Surveillance cameras filmed the incident. The suspects fled in an unknown direction. Police didn’t specify how they lugged the cumbersome batteries from the yard.

The thieves were described as white and about 20 years old. Visit the Philadelphia Police channel on YouTube.com to view the surveillance video. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
