Gunman sought in Lawncrest fatal shooting

Police are still trying to identify a gunman who shot a Lawncrest resident on the street about two blocks from his home on May 10.

Officers from the 2nd district were called to the 6000 block of Colgate St. at about 9:24 p.m. after someone reported shooting. They found Wayne Ward, 23, of the 5900 block of Palmetto St., unresponsive on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics took him to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he died about 20 minutes later.

Witnesses described the shooter as a black man in his early 20s with short black hair, a beard, tan clothing and a small silver handgun. He is right handed, police said. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information about the case. ••
