Born on June 28, 1915, Murphy graduated from the all-girls Kensington High School in 1934, married her late husband James Murphy in 1939 and mothered two daughters. She now has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Murphys moved from the Kensington area to Bustleton in 1956 and joined Bethesda, where Edith was a participant in many church activities. She credits avid swimming for her excellent health.

Party-goers presented Murphy with a birthday cake, while she received several citations, including one from City Council sponsored by Councilman Brian O’Neill. ••
