Get haircut, help needy
Hair Cuttery will be donating back-to-school haircuts to children in need this August.
From Aug. 1–15, for every child up to age 18 who purchases a haircut at one of Hair Cuttery’s almost 900 salons, one free haircut certificate will be donated to an underprivileged child in that same community.
Certificates are distributed with the help of more than 100 local government and nonprofit organizations that are closely tied to each community.

Insectarium event on July 11
The Insectarium, 8046 Frankford Ave. in Holmesburg, will assist people in beautifying marigold containers used for flowers.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 11, at 1 p.m. It is free with general admission to the museum.

Teen Tuesdays are at Holmesburg Library
Holmesburg Library, 7810 Frankford Ave., will be offering Teen Tuesdays through Aug. 4, thanks to the Friends of Holmesburg Library.
The programs, for kids 12 or older, will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
On July 14, kids will create a vehicle made of balloons and race them with their friends.
On July 21, they will make duct tape crafts.
On July 28, they will navigate magnets through a maze.
On Aug. 4, there will be a party to mark the end of the program. Kids will write a poem, similar in style to Alice in Wonderland.

JEVS now offering free trades program
JEVS Human Services is recruiting for its class of Project WOW (World of Work), which will begin on Monday, July 13, at Orleans Technical College, at 2770 Red Lion Road.
In this 24-week program, students receive GED test prep as well as hands-on training in weatherization and property maintenance/repair, such as basic skills in carpentry, plumbing and electrical, to prepare them for employment.
Project WOW is no cost to out-of-school young adults residing in Philadelphia between the ages of 18–24 who meet eligibility requirements.
Students earn a trades diploma upon program completion, work on résumé and interviewing skills, and receive job search assistance with a JEVS employment specialist.
Transportation money is provided, and GED testing fees are paid for by the program. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Enjoy Crabfries for a cause on July 13
Chickie’s and Pete’s will celebrate National French Fry Day by offering Crabfries for $1 on Monday, July 13.
As part of the promotion, Chickie’s and Pete’s will also feature $5 Miller Lite Personal Pitchers.
Chickie’s and Pete’s will donate all proceeds from each order of Crabfries and each Miller Lite Personal Pitcher sold during the day to the Survivors Fund, which benefits the families of fallen Philadelphia police officers.
“It is humbling to know how much people care about the officers who protect and serve our communities every day,” said John McNesby, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5. “We are honored to have these great partners, Chickie’s and Pete’s and Miller Lite. Farm Stand at Jeanes is open
The Farm Stand on the Jeanes Hospital campus is open every Thursday through November from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The stand offers fresh, locally sourced fruits and vegetables, cage-free brown eggs, cheeses, apple butter, pumpkin butter, cider applesauce and honey. It is located between Jeanes Hospital and Fox Chase Cancer Center, on the 7600 Central Ave. campus.

NE celebration on Aug. 22
The Take Back Your Neighborhood civic association will hold its annual Northeast Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Max Myers Playground, 1601 Hellerman St.
The free event will include children’s activities, community organizations, music, food and free school bags, courtesy of Catholic Community Services.
Participants will include the Philadelphia Zoo, the Academy of Natural Sciences, the Franklin Institute, the Barnes Foundation, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Fleisher Art Memorial and Clay Studio.
Activities will include a magician, caricature artists, clowns, carnival games, face painting and spin art.
