Man swipes charity change jar

Surveillance photo

The man who stole a charity change jar from the counter of a Tacony Wawa may be confused, but at least he stands out in a crowd, police say.

His bright orange Flyers hoodie is pretty distinguishable, even in a Flyers-crazy area like the Northeast, although it clearly clashes with his white “NY” baseball cap. Detectives expect to identify him based on surveillance video from the convenience store.

The theft occurred on June 18 at about 6:25 a.m. at 6400 Torresdale Ave. Police did not say how much money was in the container or what charity it was intended to help.

Witnesses described the thief as white with an average build, clean shaven and wearing dark sweatpants in addition to the orange sweatshirt and white cap. He fled in a newer-looking sedan westbound on Levick Street. Visit the Philadelphia Police channel on YouTube.com to view the surveillance video. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
