Northeast Animal Rescue needs volunteers

Northeast Animal Rescue is seeking volunteers for its location at PetSmart. Volunteers must be 18 or older.

Shifts include morning, nights and weekends.

Duties include cleaning cages, playing with cats and engaging with customers and potential adopters.

Holistic Open House is at WEL Burholme

Wesley Enhanced Living Burholme, 7040 Oxford Ave., will hold a Holistic Open House on Saturday, July 25, from 2–4 p.m.

Guests will participate in a laughter yoga class; receive an aromatherapy hand massage; taste test healthy food; experience ways to alleviate anxiety, depression and anger; learn about seated tai chi; learn about pet therapy; find out about the benefits of Reiki; and hear about foods with antioxidants.

Dance, yoga workshops on Saturday

Step by Step Dance Expressions, 1314 Cottman Ave., will host free dance and yoga workshops on Saturday, July 25.

Here is the schedule: Yoga Flow (9:30 to 10:45 a.m.); Beginner Jazz (11 to 11:45 a.m.); Modern Dance (noon to 12:45 p.m.); Zumba (1 to 2 p.m.).

Free movies shown at the old Devon

Kingdom Life Christian Center at the Devon, a church at 6325 Frankford Ave. that once housed the Devon Theater, will show free movies on Friday nights at 6:30 through Aug. 21.

The lineup is as follows: Big Hero 6 (July 24), Alexander & the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day (July 31), Rio 2 (Aug. 7), Home (Aug. 14) and The Goonies (Aug. 21).

The movies are being shown in partnership with City Councilman Bobby Henon. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. ••

Planning meeting scheduled for Aug. 13

John Birch Society meeting in Holmesburg

The John Birch Society will hold a meeting on Tuesday, July 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Holmesburg Recreation Center, at Rhawn and Ditman streets.

Two videos, An Overview of America and Dollars & Sense, will be shown. They are narrated by John McManus, president of the John Birch Society.

The motto of the John Birch Society is “Less Government, More Responsibility and — With God’s Help — A Better World.” ••

Lottery ticket convention at Sheraton

The Global Lottery Collector’s Society will host its annual lottery ticket convention, “Lotovention,” on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Four Points-Sheraton Hotel, 9461 Roosevelt Blvd.

The annual event gives members the opportunity to meet face-to-face after spending numerous hours trading tickets through the mail. Attendees will have access to thousands of different scratch-off tickets from all over the country, all in one room. The event is free and open to the public, and club members hope the event will attract new members.
