Playing the blame game

In reading George Tomezsko’s editorial rant (“Continuously Frustrated By An Irresponsible Nation” 7–8–15), I was and still am curious about how the Roe V. Wade decision in 1973 has affected our economy.

In every editorial he writes, I’ve been operating under the assumption that the reason George devotes so much time and energy to shouting at the rain was that he simply didn’t get it. Well, I was wrong. George’s problem isn’t that he doesn’t get it. George’s problem is that he can’t sell it.

America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You’ve got to want it bad, because it’s going to put up a fight. It’s going to say, “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.”

We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you George Tomezsko is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things: making you afraid of it and telling you who’s to blame for it.

At the end of his rant, he says and I quote “I have a vision. A new republic will arise here, one truly blessed by nature’s God.” Our nation was founded on freedom of religion. We left England due to religious persecution. Our nation’s debt issues are not part and parcel of the “trifecta of irresponsibility.” If you want to discuss economics, George, then just write another editorial and I’ll respond in kind.

Thanks, Vogt supporters

Thank you to all coaches, assistant coaches, and Vogt staff who participated making this baseball/softball season a great one. To all the team members who came out each day to support your team, thank you.

To all parents, thank you for supporting each team member with your cheers, motivation, beverages and snacks. We certainly appreciate the time and dedication it takes from each and every person to make Vogt a great recreation center. Have a great summer and see you next year.

Out-of-control block party

I have nothing against the neighborhood having a block party and having a good time but more recently, this is getting to be a real nuisance. Here’s why:

1. Motorists driving the wrong way down a one-way street, therefore increasing the risk of the head-on collision with the car coming the opposite way.

2. Someone spilled beverages on our cars in our driveway. Also, a female teenager wearing a stripped top and dark pants with brown hair was seen trespassing and running out of our driveway, setting off our car’s alarm. She drove away in a silver SUV around 10:30 p.m. on July 11.

3. Morons parked over the curb. (With an FOP tag. Are they above the law?)

4. People were coming in from outside the neighborhood.

5. Too much alcohol is being served. Even minors were seen drunk and urinating on our property.

So why not have a block party at Chalfont Playground and use the schoolyard for parking? The reason I’m writing this is because I’m getting sick and tired of being harassed. I’m getting fed up.

Nabisco is gone, not lost

It’s always hard to see a local business close, especially one associated with so many good memories.

There is no doubt that the Nabisco plant was part of our community, and I am angered by the decision of Mondelez to close it for profit and cheap labor.

Growing up on Worthington Road, some of my most cherished memories are accompanied by the smell of the freshly baked goods.

We all know that the Northeast is at a crossroads and every day we have to work to keep it the great neighborhood that it was and still is.

Yet, when landmarks close up shop, it makes the fight just a bit harder. But the struggle is worth it.

Our neighborhood is absolutely one of a kind and while it may no longer smell of fresh baked goods, I could not call any other place home.
