Cop to host Town Hall meeting
Police Inspector Benjamin Naish will conduct a Divisional Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Philadelphia Protestant Home, 6500 Tabor Ave. The meeting gives residents the chance to bring their concerns to the attention of the inspector, who oversees all four Northeast police districts as well as the captains of the 2nd, 7th, 8th and 15th districts and their community relations officers. ••
Hero teacher nominations open
The deadline is Feb. 28 to nominate a teacher for commitment to inspiring, motivating and educating young people.
The National Liberty Museum is holding its ninth annual Teacher as Hero contest, sponsored by State Farm.
Winners will be selected by a panel assembled by the National Liberty Museum, and notified in early spring. An awards ceremony will be held April 30 at the museum, 321 Chestnut St.

Training program is available for caregivers
Community Care Center of the Northeast, at 2417 Welsh Road, Suite 202, offers an 80-hour training program for people caring for an older family member, friend or neighbor.
The class is held once a week for 12 weeks.

Holmesburg Rec offers tot program
Holmesburg Recreation Center, 4500 Rhawn St., is welcoming parents to sign up their children for a tot program. Children 3 and 4 years old can attend Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Children 4 and 5 years old can attend weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
Activities include the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, storytime, creative movement, singing/music, nursery rhymes, name recognition and arts and crafts.
Teachers participate in annual training in early childhood workshops, CPR, first aid and fire safety, and face child abuse, criminal record and FBI clearances.
There is a registration fee and monthly cost.

Ambulance association gets grant
State Rep. John Sabatina (D-174th dist.) recently announced a $7,445 state grant to the Rhawnhurst Bustleton Ambulance Association from the Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program, funded by gaming revenue.
“This funding will go toward a valuable and worthwhile cause and I’m very proud the state deemed the Rhawnhurst Bustleton Ambulance Association a worthy recipient,” Sabatina said. “These men and women make a tremendous sacrifice and I applaud their efforts to serve our community.”
The maximum volunteer fire department grant is $15,000 and the maximum volunteer ambulance grant $10,000. Grants can be used for repairing, building or renovating facilities; for new equipment; training and certification; or for debt service related to equipment or facility expenditures. ••
Cardinal Dougherty graduate earns award
Tesse Wilson, a 2002 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School, was recently named United States Coast Guard Sailor of the Quarter.
Wilson joined the Coast Guard after graduating from Dougherty. During her tenure, she has been stationed in numerous locations, including overseas in Bahrain.
At present, she is serving on the Coast Guard cutter ELM, stationed at Emerald Isle, North Carolina.
Wilson was recognized for her dedication, professionalism, perseverance, selfless and positive attitude, expertise, devotion to duty and commitment to the Coast Guard. She received 72 hours of special liberty. ••
Caregiver support group available
Wesley Enhanced Living, 7040 Oxford Ave. in Burholme, will host its free, monthly support group for adults who are caring for an aging loved one on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
A licensed social worker will facilitate the group and lead discussions around concerns such as caregiver stress and burnout, family dynamics and future planning. Additionally, a light dinner will be served at no cost.
