Suspects sought in heist prompted by social media posts

A Somerton teenager with expensive taste in accessories and a penchant for posting selfies on Instagram became the target of home invasion robbers last Friday, police say.

Three masked gunmen burst into the 19-year-old victim’s home on the unit block of Brookshire Terrace at about 2:30 a.m., where the resident and several of his friends were hanging out. The intruders told the resident that they had seen photos of his Rolex watch and jewelry on his social media account. The victim surrendered his watch and two gold chains.

During the heist, one teen victim hid in a bathroom and called 911 on his cell phone. Although the robbers detected him, police were already on the way. As officers arrived, the three crooks escaped via a rear window, leaving two guns behind, police said. No injuries were reported.

Police recovered three of the victims’ cell phones a short distance from the home.

One robber was described as black, 5 feet 10 inches tall and muscular. A second robber was described as black or Hispanic, 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. He wore black clothing. The third robber was described as white, 6 feet 1 inch tall and about 175 pounds. He wore a light blue sweatshirt. All three crooks also wore black ski masks. ••
