Signups for weight-loss program
The Trevose Behavior Modification Program is accepting applications for its free weight-loss program.
The deadline to fill out an application is Aug. 10. Applicants must need to lose about 20 to 80 pounds.
The group for new members will begin on Aug. 20. Meetings are held on Thursday mornings in Bustleton.
The program, a nonprofit support group, was started by the University of Pennsylvania in 1970.

Local student earns internship
Isaac Takyi-Buachie, a senior at Northeast High School, was chosen by Bank of America for its 2015 Student Leaders Program.
The program, which works to connect promising students with the education and training needed to succeed in today’s workforce, offers eight-week paid internships at local nonprofits.
Takyi-Buachie is interning this summer with the Philadelphia Youth Network. In his spare time, he is actively involved with the Church of Pentecost Bensalem Youth Group. ••
Deer Meadows gets high marks
The Pennsylvania Homecare Association has given Deer Meadows Home Health and Support Services, 8301 Roosevelt Blvd., a 5-star quality rating. The homecare association arrived at its rating based on outcomes and patient education, patient needs and open communication. Deer Meadows is in the top 3 percent of home health agencies in Pennsylvania. ••
Movies at the old Devon
Kingdom Life Christian Center at the Devon, a church at 6325 Frankford Ave. that once housed the Devon Theater, will show free movies on Friday nights at 6:30 through Aug. 21.
The lineup is as follows: Rio 2 (Aug. 7), Home (Aug. 14) and The Goonies (Aug. 21). The movies are being shown in partnership with City Councilman Bobby Henon. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. ••
Planning meeting slated for Aug. 13
The City Planning Commission invites the public to take part in the next Philadelphia2035 North Delaware District planning meeting on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Holmesburg Recreation Center, 4500 Rhawn St.
Those who attend will help shape future development and public investment in the district, which includes the neighborhoods of Wissinoming, Tacony, Mayfair, Holmesburg, Upper Holmesburg and Torresdale. Attendees will also see a presentation of existing conditions and be asked to participate in an interactive group mapping exercise.

Rugby tournament at Academy Sabres

Breast cancer screenings on Aug. 10
The district office of state Rep. John Taylor will host breast cancer screenings on Monday, Aug. 10, starting at 9 a.m. The Fox Chase Mobile Mammography Van will be at Taylor’s office at 2901 E. Thompson St.
To receive a mammogram, a woman must be 40 or older and receive a prescription from her doctor. She must not be breast feeding or have breast fed within the last nine months. She must not have had a breast cancer diagnosis within the last two years. She must not have had a mammogram in the last 12 months.

Frankford Community Day on Aug. 15
State Rep. Jason Dawkins will sponsor Frankford Community Day and Gospel Concert Series on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gambrel Playground, 1900 Wakeling St.

Farm Stand at Jeanes Hospital
The Farm Stand on the Jeanes Hospital campus is open every Thursday through November from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The stand offers fresh, locally sourced fruits and vegetables, cage-free brown eggs, cheeses, apple butter, pumpkin butter, cider applesauce and honey. Joint replacement seminars
Jeanes Hospital, 7600 Central Ave., will hold free seminars for people considering a total hip or knee replacement.
The seminars will include information about the benefits of total joint replacement, what to expect, a tour of the Orthopaedic Center at Jeanes and a question-and-answer session.
The seminars are run by Jeanes Hospital rehabilitation therapists, nurses and case managers.

Lung cancer fundraiser is Sept. 19
The Trovato family will sponsor Breathe Deep Philadelphia, a 5K walk and fun run in Pennypack Park on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the park near the entrance at Rhawn and Holmehurst streets. The walk and fun run start at 10 a.m.
Proceeds will benefit the LUNGevity Foundation, the nation’s largest private funder of lung cancer research.
Lung cancer kills more people than breast, prostate, colorectal, pancreatic and melanoma cancers combined.

Breast cancer event announced
Nazareth Hospital will present its sixth annual Breast Cancer Education and Awareness Event on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m. at Cannstatter’s, 9130 Academy Road.
