Two dead in single-car crash on Boulevard

A motorist attempted an ill-advised, high-speed lane change on Roosevelt Boulevard and paid for the mistake with her life, as well as the life of her passenger, according to police.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Monday at Roosevelt Boulevard and Adams Avenue. Rosagna Galvez, 24, of the 3100 block of N. Front St., was driving a 2005 Jeep Cherokee at a high rate of speed southbound in the inner lanes when she attempted to turn right onto Adams Avenue, police said. The SUV swerved across the grassy median strip, jumped the outside curb and struck a traffic light pole.

The Cherokee flipped and traveled onto Adams Avenue toward Whitaker Avenue. Galvez and her passenger, 30-year-old Jeifrey Cheves of the 200 block of W. Mentor St., were both ejected from the vehicle and thrown about 150 feet. Paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene. ••
