Philadelphia police detectives have arrested two men in connection with unrelated shootings earlier this year in the Northeast.
On April 3, two men, ages 18 and 20, were riding in an Acura sedan on the 4800 block of Magee Ave. in Tacony when an unknown man opened fire on the car from the sidewalk, police said. The driver suffered a shoulder wound and the passenger a wound of the back. Both victims fled the area before meeting up with police, who took them to an area hospital in stable condition.
One of the victims told police that he had argued with the gunman a short time before the shooting at Torresdale Avenue and Unruh Street. Detectives searched the shooting scene for video evidence and witnesses and identified a suspect as Chisum Manigo, 18, of the 6600 block of Hegerman St.
Detectives arrested Manigo on Sunday at an undisclosed location. He has been charged with multiple counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, weapons violations and related offenses. He is held at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in lieu of $1 million bail.
Detectives made a second arrest in an unrelated shooting on Friday. Joel Gooding, 24, of the 1800 block of N. 25th St., allegedly shot a 19-year-old man at the Liberty Gas Station, 7601 Frankford Ave., on March 15.
A motive is not known for the gunfire, which occurred at about 5:34 p.m. The victim told police at the scene that he did not know the attacker, who fled in a gray Chevrolet Traverse. Paramedics took the victim to an area hospital in stable condition with a wounded left arm.
Surveillance video helped officers identify the shooter, as did a receipt from the gas station where the alleged gunman bought gas that afternoon.
Gooding was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, weapons violations and related offenses. He is jailed at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in lieu of $1 million bail.
Court records show he has at least four prior arrests in Philadelphia. He pleaded guilty in November 2011 to receiving stolen property and two firearms offenses and was sentenced to serve 2–1/2 to five years in state prison. ••
