Homeless man to stand trial for murder

A homeless man has been ordered to stand trial for the home invasion slaying of a Frankford man and the wounding of a woman in January.

George Pines, 50, is charged with capital murder, along with conspiracy, robbery, burglary, firearms violations and related offenses. Municipal Court Judge Teresa Carr Deni ordered him to stand trial following a preliminary hearing on April 14.

Pines remained at-large for about a month following the Jan. 18 shooting inside a house on the 1500 block of Adams Ave. Authorities have alleged that Pines broke into the house shortly after midnight, threatened at least three people with a gun and demanded money and drugs. Then, Pines allegedly began shooting, wounding Terrance Solomon, 35, of the 900 block of W. Cheltenham Ave., in the face and head. Solomon died at about 10:30 the following night at Hahnemann University Hospital. A 31-year-old woman suffered wounds of the head, chest and arm, but survived.

Pines is held at Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility without bail. ••
