Amateur bouts set for Sept. 5
The Harrowgate Boxing Club will host an evening of amateur pugilism on Friday, Sept. 5, when the local boys will take on the Holy Family Boxing Club of Belfast, Ireland, at Cannstatter’s, 9130 Academy Road. The 10-bout card starts at 7:30 p.m.
The friendly competition is sanctioned by the Middle Atlantic Association and by USA Boxing. The event will kick off the annual Northeast Philly Irish Festival at Cannstatter’s on Saturday and Sunday.

La Casa Di Lucia show to benefit cancer fight
The nonprofit Showtime Charities Inc. will raise money to help fight ovarian cancer at an upcoming show at La Casa Di Lucia, 14425 Bustleton Ave. (at Philmont Avenue) in Somerton.
The show, Traveling Across America, is set for Monday, Sept. 8, at 7:30 p.m. The singers will take the crowd on a musical journey around the United States.
Tickets cost $20. Proceeds will benefit the Teal Tea Foundation.
“All the money raised will stay right here in our community and be directed to Teal Tea’s ‘Give a Girl a Lift’ program, which provides transportation to women who are either too weak or too sick to drive themselves to their treatments for ovarian cancer,” said Debbie Knight, president of Showtime Charities.

Bird walk is at Glen Foerd on the Delaware
Discover the great variety of bird life at Glen Foerd on the Delaware while enjoying a beautiful late summer morning at the Glen Foerd Bird Walk on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 9 a.m.
Tony Croasdale of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club will be the guide. Coffee will be free to guests. All participants are encouraged to bring binoculars.
The cost is $5 per person. Pre-registration is not required. A tour of the mansion will begin after the bird walk at 11 a.m. An additional fee will be charged for the tour. ••
Holmesburg Health Fair set for Sept. 6
The Holmesburg Health Fair will take place on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Center for Medical Excellence, 8015-21 Frankford Ave.
There will be health screenings, document shredding, face-painting, refreshments, giveaways and entertainment. ••
Church hosts block party Saturday
Seven Mile Road Church, 525 Welsh Road in Bustleton, invites the public to attend a block party on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The Jump City Jazz Orchestra will perform. There will be free swing dance lessons, face-painting and a Moonbounce. Food will be available for purchase, with proceeds going to Anne Frank Elementary School.

Italian festival slated for Sept. 7
Our Lady of Consolation Parish, at Princeton Avenue and Tulip Street in Tacony, will hold an Italian festival on Sunday, Sept. 7.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., followed by a street procession of people dressed as saints.
The festival will run from 1 to 7 p.m., rain or shine. It will include Italian food, Italian novelties, dancers, children’s rides and games and live entertainment by Philly Brass and the Electric Band. ••
Program on St. Joachim’s is Sept. 9
The Historical Society of Frankford, 1507 Orthodox St., will present Frankford’s Faith Legacy: Historic St. Joachim’s Church: Looming Large in Our Area’s History on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
The event will be presented by Pat Smiley, head of Keep the Faith in Frankford, an organization trying to persuade the Vatican to reopen St. Joachim Church.
The cost is $5. Refreshments will be served.

School uniforms that are still in good condition can be recycled, said Nafisah Lewis, coordinator of Northeast EPIC Stakeholders.
Clean uniforms, folded, not on hangers, can be dropped off Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Taha Barbershop, 4665 Frankford Ave.
