2nd PDAC honors officers

Narcotics and burglaries kept 2nd Police District officers busy in April, May and June.

Members of the 2nd’s Police District Advisory Council earlier this month honored cops for making several busts during those months.

Officers Kevin McGrorty and Sean King were commended for “numerous outstanding arrests” in April, Community Relations Officer Dianne Murphy said. Those arrests resulted in the seizure of five handguns and narcotics worth $54,000.

Officers Anthony Glaviano and Christopher McCue were honored as May’s officers of the month for a burglary arrest they made on the morning of May 27.

According to Murphy, the two were on routine patrol at 9:35 a.m. when they got a radio call about a burglary in progress on the 7900 block of Summerdale Avenue. When they arrived on the block, they saw a home’s first-floor window pushed in. As Glaviano tried to enter the building, he heard a rear door slam and then spotted a man tossing a leather duffle bag before fleeing south on Summerdale. McCue chased down the burglar on the 1700 block of Griffith Street and put him under arrest. Two laptops, a phone and jewelry were found in the duffle bag.

King was honored along with Officer Kevin Doerr as June’s officers of the month for a late-night burglary arrest on the 6000 block of Castor Avenue.

The two officers received a radio call about a burglary in progress at a meat market on the block at 10:32 p.m. on June 12.

When they arrived, they spotted two men in a rear alley. When the two cops tried to stop them, the men fled into a building on the 1400 block of Creston Street. The officers followed them inside and had to struggle with them to put them in handcuffs. Once that was accomplished, according to Murphy, Doerr and King found the meat market’s cash register inside the Creston Street property.

Members of the PDAC are representatives of other civic and Town Watch organizations as well as local office holders. Their next session is slated for Oct. 14 at the Philadelphia Protestant Home, 6500 Tabor Ave. ••
