According to an official police department statement, shortly before 10 p.m., 15th district officers saw an occupied Nissan Altima with New Jersey plates in the rear of an apartment complex at 4818 Comly St. The officers parked their patrol vehicle in front of the car and exited the patrol vehicle to investigate further. The other motorist shifted the Nissan into reverse, struck a fence, shifted into a forward gear and drove toward the officers, who were on foot. The officers fired gunshots at the fleeing car, which struck the patrol vehicle and fled via Comly Street.

A short time later, a 20-year-old woman arrived at Aria Health-Frankford seeking treatment for a gunshot wound of the right thigh and was accompanied by a man. Police identified both as passengers in the Nissan.

Almost two hours after the initial confrontation, police found the unoccupied Nissan in the rear driveway of the 6500 block of Vandike St. It had bullet holes and blood stains in it and had been reported stolen. Investigators determined that Deandre Jones, 25, of the 4800 block of Alcott St., had been driving the car when it struck the police vehicle.

Police contacted Jones via telephone, when he reported he had a graze wound of the arm and would surrender to police. He refused to reveal his location. Jones has yet to surrender and is also wanted in connection with a prior domestic violence case.
