Register valuables in free crime-prevention program

The 7th Police District Advisory Council and Philadelphia police encourage all residents and businesses to register for Operation Identification, a free crime-prevention program.

Participants are asked to complete an application form online to receive a set of tamper-resistant stickers to affix to their property of value, such as televisions, computers, other appliances, cameras, gaming systems, bicycles, tools, cell phones and guns. Applicants will also receive a window decal to advise potential burglars that you participate in the program.

Property stickers are numbered so that if the items are stolen and recovered, police will have a record of the property owner. This is useful because it makes it easier for authorities to prosecute burglars and thieves for specific crimes. Also, labels make it difficult for the crook to resell or dispose of stolen property. These factors are intended to deter criminals in the first place.

Residents and businesses within the 7th Police District can register for the program directly from the 7th PDAC website, www.7thpdac.com

Residents and businesses within other districts can use www.phillypolice.com or apply by visiting their local police district. ••
