Man struck, killed by SEPTA train in Crescentville

A SEPTA commuter train struck and killed a man who was on the tracks of the Fox Chase Regional Line Tuesday night.

SEPTA spokesman Andrew Busch said the man was spotted on the outbound tracks at 6:48 p.m. between the Olney and Lawndale stations. The engineer sounded his horn and applied the brakes but the train couldn’t stop in time to avoid hitting the man, Busch said.

The man, who was in his 20s, was dead at the scene. The transit agency had no other information on his identity.

“We’re still investigating why he was on the tracks,” Busch said.

None of the 60 passengers or three crew members was injured, the spokesman said. The passengers continued their trips on shuttle buses, and normal service resumed at 10:45 p.m., Busch said. ••
