No election for Millbrook Civic board members

Millbrook Civic Association board members won’t stand for election at the end of this month. Only the current board members were nominated during the association’s Oct. 28 session at the Calvary Athletic Association.

“So I guess there’s no election in November,” said John Kradzinski, the group’s president .

Carol Fowler, vice president; Mike Bremser, secretary; Mary Anne Benner, treasurer; and Mike Lamb, sergeant-at-arms, were all renominated along with Kradzinski without opposition.

Benner gave a short treasurer’s report. The association had $180 and still does.

Natalie Crone, the 8th Police District’s community relations officer, warned residents to lock their vehicles. There have been many thefts from autos in the Far Northeast district, she said, and 99 percent of them involved unlocked cars.

For thieves making off with cars, not just breaking into them, Hondas, especially older-model Hondas, have become favorites, Crone said. Another kind of car theft involves private tow companies. Some drivers are slipping hooks on any cars they choose, towing them and selling them for scrap.

There have been some home invasions in the Far Northeast, she said, and added that most of those crimes involved drugs.

Crone asked people to support — and join — the 8th Police District Advisory Council, which meets at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at the police headquarters, Academy and Red Lion roads. The PDAC’s members, who usually represent local civic and Town Watch groups as well as churches, schools and businesses, discuss crime problems as well as crime-fighting strategies with police.

In other Millbrook Civic news:

Kradzinski said he expects a Sav-A-Lot market to open sometime in the next few months at the Knights Road Shopping Center, Knights and Woodhaven roads.

Neighbors were glad to hear about parking lot and interior roadway repaving at Franklin Mills, now Philadelphia Mills. Kradzinski said the new Walmart store has opened inside the mall, and that he believes the discount chain’s old store outside the main mall structure will be divided up and used by several stores.

There are other openings at the mall, too. According to a news release from Philadelphia Mills, new stores have opened or will open soon. Sports gear retailer Puma will open this month near Saks Fifth Avenue. Rack Room Shoes also will open this month near Old Navy Outlet. Express Factory Outlet, a specialty fashion retailer, opened in September.

The association’s next session will be begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Calvary A.A., 4330 Deerpath Lane. ••
