Civic group to feed the needy

The Take Back Your Neighborhood civic association will help feed the hungry on Wednesday, Nov. 26, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Calvary Christian Church, 6000–38 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Large Street).

The menu will include turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, string beans, rolls, cakes, pies, coffee, tea and water.

Smash a Dallas Cowboys car at Dunphy Ford

Dunphy Ford, 7700 Frankford Ave., will hold its second annual Sledge Hammer Bash on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

People will be able to use a sledgehammer to smash a used car painted with Dallas Cowboys colors. The Eagles play the Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

The cost is $5 per swing or $10 for three swings. All proceeds go to the Citizens for Fire Prevention Committee.

The day will also include face-painting and free hot dogs and soft drinks. Children will be able to climb on a fire engine.

Dunphy Ford will donate $100 from the sale of all new and used cars on Saturday to the fire prevention committee.

Meanwhile, Dunphy Ford will be collecting new, unwrapped toys through Dec. 22 for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive.

Franklin Towne fundraiser at Cannstatter’s

Franklin Towne Charter School will be holding a beef-and-beer fundraiser for its athletic program on Friday, Nov. 21, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Cannstatter’s, 9130 Academy Road.

Tickets cost $20 and are available in advance or at the door. There will be food, drinks, a silent auction table and multiple 50/50 drawings.

Father Judge gets dramatic this week

The Father Judge Theater Arts Club will present A Night of One-Act Plays on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the auditorium of the school, 3301 Solly Ave. Show times are 7 p.m.

Tickets are $7 in advance and $8 at the door ($7 with a student ID).

Winter clothing being collected in Lawncrest

The Tzu Chi Foundation will be collecting coats and other winter clothing for needy men, women and children through Nov. 26.

Items accepted include gently used jackets, coats, sweaters, scarves, gloves and blankets. Donations can be dropped off at Lawncrest Recreation Center, 6000 Rising Sun Ave., from 2 to 9 p.m. They can also be placed on the front porch of 6141 Argyle St.

Rep. Taylor collecting toys for needy

State Rep. John Taylor (R-177th dist.) is sponsoring his 21st annual toy drive for needy children in his district. Toys and gifts are needed for children from infant to 10 years old. Items need to be new and unwrapped.

The gifts can be dropped off at either of Taylor’s offices, 2901 E. Thompson St. and 4725 Richmond St. The toys collected will be distributed to families in time for Christmas. ••
