Planned Frankford garden gets financial help

Plans to create a garden on the 4600 block of Paul Street got a financial boost. Plans have fallen through to put a sculpture at Womrath Park at Kensington and Frankford avenues, Kimberly Washington told members of the Frankford Parks Group on April 29, so some of the $120,000 budgeted for that could be used for improvements to a lot at Paul and Frankford, said Washington, executive director of the Frankford Community Development Corporation.

That will help push up completion of design for a garden the CDC wants to put on the property. Washington said she is hoping some of the money unused at Womrath will help improve the block.

Members plan to work tidying up Wilmot Park at Mulberry and Meadow streets during Love Your Park Week, May 10–17. They’re also going to tend the community garden at Tackawanna and Meadow streets.

Renovations are well under way at Frankford’s Hedge Street park and look to be complete by July. Washington said the murals now at the small property won’t be saved.

They’re too damaged by weather and graffiti, said Washington. ••
