Couple to stand trial for fatal beating

A boyfriend and girlfriend have been ordered to stand trial for the baseball bat beating death of a Levittown man on a Wissinoming street last September.

Municipal Court Judge Patrick F. Dugan ruled on May 20 that Ian Pawlowic, 21, of Philadelphia, and Krista McDevitt, 24, of Bristol, will face charges of second-degree murder, conspiracy, robbery and related offenses for the slaying of Joseph Britton, 30. A trial date has not been set.

Police found Britton on Sept. 14 at about 1:19 a.m. on the 5900 block of Charles St. The victim was slumped over the steering wheel of a Hyundai Tiburon and unresponsive with apparent blunt-force wounds of the head. He died at the scene.

The beating had occurred moments earlier with witnesses placing multiple 911 calls about a “screaming person” and a person being beaten with a bat or stick. Detectives arrested Pawlowic and McDevitt in connection with the attack on April 18. Investigators believe that McDevitt is Britton’s ex-girlfriend.

Both defendants remain in custody of Philadelphia prisons without bail. ••
