Chem­ic­al site meet­ing

The NK­CDC is co­ordin­at­ing a pub­lic meet­ing re­gard­ing the former Path­an Chem­ic­al Site loc­ated at 427-447 Moy­er St. The site has been found to con­tain con­cen­tra­tions of lead in soil and 1,2-di­chloro­eth­ane, 1,2-di­chloro­p­ro­pane, tri­chloro­ethyl­ene and tet­ra­chloro­ethyl­ene in ground­wa­ter. 

The meet­ing will be held on Wed­nes­day, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Fishtown Re­cre­ation Cen­ter at 1202 E. Mont­gomery Ave. Rel­ev­ant doc­u­ments re­gard­ing the re­medi­ation of this prop­erty are avail­able for pub­lic re­view at the Fishtown Com­munity Branch of the Free Lib­rary of Phil­adelphia, 1217 E. Mont­gomery Ave. ••

Friends of Adaire

The newly-formed Friends of Adaire group, an as­so­ci­ation of par­ents, edu­cat­ors, and com­munity mem­bers whose mis­sion is to en­rich the edu­ca­tion of Al­ex­an­der Adaire ele­ment­ary school stu­dents, is hold­ing its monthly meet­ing at the Fishtown Re­cre­ation Cen­ter on Wed­nes­day, March 5, at 6:15 p.m. The agenda in­cludes plan­ning for the group’s school sup­plies dona­tion cam­paign and a school beau­ti­fic­a­tion pro­ject. Tot Pro­gram Re­gis­tra­tion

Frank Glav­in Play­ground, loc­ated at Al­mond and West­mo­re­land Streets, will be hold­ing re­gis­tra­tion for their Tot Re­cre­ation pro­gram on Thursday, March 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. There is a $20 non-re­fund­able fee. Chil­dren must be 3 years old by Dec. 31, 2014 to be eli­gible for the 3-year-old class, and 4 years old by Dec. 31, 2014 to be eli­gible for the 4-year-old class. First Fri­day

Above Reas­on, a new col­lec­tion of oil paint­ings by Phil­adelphia-born artist Richard Gab­ri­ele, is on view at Artspace Liberti, 2424 East York St. The artist will host a re­cep­tion on Fri­day, March 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. to cel­eb­rate his first solo show in his ho­met­own. 

An col­lec­tion of black-and-white street pho­to­graphy by Meredith Kleiber will be on view for the month of March at Cook & Shaker, 2301 E. Al­bert St. There will be a First Fri­day re­cep­tion on March 7 from 5 to 11 p.m., which will fea­ture raffles and a fir­kin from Fegley Brew Works. ••

Mu­sic from the Middle East

Mont­gomery Ave., will host All Around This World: Mu­sic From the Middle East on Fri­day, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. Small chil­dren and their care­givers will ex­plore rhythms and melod­ies from the Middle East and oth­er cul­tures in a fun-filled and par­ti­cip­at­ory way. Greens­grow events

A to­mato graft­ing work­shop will be held on Sat­urday, March 8 from 12 to 2 p.m. Farm­er Nath­an Hassler-Brooks will demon­strate how to graft onto a blight res­ist­ant root stock and ex­plain why and how graft­ing works.
