Police seek suspects in South Kensington shooting

Po­lice re­lease sur­veil­lance video of shoot­ing; ask for pub­lic's help.

A man was shot in a rob­bery on W. Thompson Street between N. Howard Street and N. Mascher Street in South Kens­ing­ton early Sat­urday morn­ing.

In the wee hours of Sat­urday morn­ing, a 25-year-old man was walk­ing with three friends west­bound on W. Thompson Street in South Kens­ing­ton when an SUV stopped and two men got out and ran at them.

The as­sail­ants poin­ted guns at the four friends and de­man­ded their prop­erty, ac­cord­ing to the Phil­adelphia Po­lice De­part­ment. When the man re­fused, one of the sus­pects fired three shots at him, strik­ing him once in the left leg. The oth­er sus­pect ap­proached the man’s friends and took a wal­let con­tain­ing iden­ti­fic­a­tion and $70.

The vic­tims fled and called 911. The man was taken to Temple Hos­pit­al for treat­ment of the gun­shot wound to his leg.

The shoot­ing took place on W. Thompson Street between N. Howard Street and N. Mascher Street, just two blocks west of Fishtown.

Po­lice have re­lease sur­veil­lance video of the shoot­ing and are ask­ing for the pub­lic’s help in identi­fy­ing the sus­pects. Click here to view the sur­veil­lance video.

The shoot­er is de­scribed as a black male, 20 to 30 years old and 6’ 2” with a thin build, wear­ing a gray hooded sweat­shirt with his face covered. The oth­er sus­pect is de­scribed as a black male, 20 years old and 5’ 8” with a thin build, wear­ing a blue hooded sweat­shirt. The vehicle they were in was a late 1990’s green Ford Ex­plorer.
