Chamber helps Salvation Army

GN­PCC Lead­er­ship De­vel­op­ment Pro­gram vo­lun­teers wrapped cop­ies of the book Rais­ing the Bar for a dozen fe­male stu­dents.

The Great­er North­east Phil­adelphia Cham­ber of Com­merce Lead­er­ship De­vel­op­ment Pro­gram teamed with Be­ne­fi­cial Bank and oth­er spon­sors to sup­port The Sal­va­tion Army’s “Be Your Best 2014” after-school ini­ti­at­ive.

GN­PCC Lead­er­ship De­vel­op­ment Pro­gram vo­lun­teers wrapped cop­ies of the book Rais­ing the Bar, presen­ted by Be­ne­fi­cial Bank for a dozen fe­male stu­dents ages 10-13. The vo­lun­teers also placed a per­son­al note in­to the front cov­er of the book, meant to be read over the sum­mer.

The book was writ­ten by Gab­ri­elle Dou­glass, a gold medal-win­ning gym­nast in the 2012 Sum­mer Olympics.

May­fair’s Col­lette McBrat­ney is the dir­ect­or of the lead­er­ship de­vel­op­ment pro­gram, and she also dir­ects Be Your Best.

Be­ne­fi­cial’s Jenn MacMul­len, An­drea Byard and Kristina Ber­rios spoke to the girls about fin­an­cial lit­er­acy. The bank also provided bags filled with good­ies.

The main fo­cus of the 12-week class was teach­ing man­ners and etiquette skills.

The girls of­fi­cially gradu­ated from the pro­gram on June 13 dur­ing a ce­re­mony/three-course tea party at the Four Sea­sons Hotel in Cen­ter City. They ar­rived in lim­ousines, and per­formed a mu­sic­al se­lec­tion. ••
