Take Back Your Neighborhood civic gets advice about voting

Mem­bers of the Take Back Your Neigh­bor­hood civic as­so­ci­ation last week heard from city elec­tions com­mis­sion­er Stephanie Sing­er and As­sist­ant Dis­trict At­tor­ney Jac­queline Coelho.

Sing­er ex­plained that Oct. 5 is the dead­line to re­gister to vote in the Nov. 4 gen­er­al elec­tion. Forms are avail­able at www.votespa.com 

Ab­sent­ee bal­lot ap­plic­a­tions are already avail­able.

• The Is­rael Scouts Friend­ship Cara­van will per­form Hebrew and Eng­lish songs and dances on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 5:45 p.m. at Con­greg­a­tions of Shaare Shamay­im, 9768 Ver­ree Road.

The event is free and for all ages.

Guests can meet the Scouts be­fore and after the show. Sup­per will be served, with falafel, tuna and egg salad on the menu.

• Take Back Your Neigh­bor­hood will host its an­nu­al North­east Cel­eb­ra­tion on Sat­urday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Max My­ers Play­ground, at 1601 Heller­man St.

The free event will take place rain or shine. It will fea­ture food, games, mu­sic, lit­er­at­ure, blood pres­sure screen­ings, chil­dren’s fin­ger­print­ing, Zumba and ap­pear­ances by rep­res­ent­at­ives of the Phil­adelphia Zoo and the Academy of Nat­ur­al Sci­ences.

Cath­ol­ic Com­munity Ser­vices has donated 100 school­bags, which will be dis­trib­uted on a first-come, first-served basis.

• The Rhawn­hurst Nat­ur­ally Oc­cur­ring Re­tire­ment Com­munity will hold a lunch­eon on Thursday, Aug. 28, at noon at Ner Zedek Syn­agogue, 7520 Bustleton Ave.

The cost is $5. There’s a choice of egg salad, tuna salad or sea­food salad. It in­cludes a bever­age, side salad and dessert.

The nu­tri­tion de­part­ment of the Im­macu­late Mary Home will present Cook­ing for One or Two With Fruits & Ve­get­ables.
