Local librarian honored

Dav­id Payne was honored be­fore his re­cent de­par­ture as head lib­rar­i­an at the Ta­cony branch of the Free Lib­rary of Phil­adelphia.

Payne spent a dec­ade as branch lib­rar­i­an be­fore leav­ing for a sim­il­ar job in Mas­sachu­setts.

Be­fore he left, mem­bers of the com­munity presen­ted him with a cer­ti­fic­ate of ap­pre­ci­ation.

Payne was act­ive with the Ta­cony Com­munity De­vel­op­ment Cor­por­a­tion, even serving on its board of dir­ect­ors. He also as­sisted the His­tor­ic­al So­ci­ety of Ta­cony and the Ta­cony Civic As­so­ci­ation, in­clud­ing co­ordin­at­ing the an­nu­al Win­ter­fest in Decem­ber at the lib­rary.

In ad­di­tion, he con­trib­uted mod­ern im­ages for the book Then and Now: Lower North­east Phil­adelphia.

On Thanks­giv­ing week­end in 2011, he opened the lib­rary on a Sat­urday to meet a con­tin­gent of Dis­ston fam­ily mem­bers who were in the area tour­ing the Dis­ston Es­tate. ••
