Kinder­garten re­gis­tra­tion

Kinder­garten re­gis­tra­tion for Hack­ett School’s 2014-2015 school year be­gins on Jan. 21 and is on­go­ing un­til June.

The kinder­garten open house at Hack­ett, loc­ated at 2161 E. York St., will take place on March 4 at 9:15 a.m. 

Those not in the Hack­ett Catch­ment are asked to check with Friends of Adaire School or H.A Brown School. ••

Rizzo PAL sports sign-ups

Rizzo PAL is hold­ing sign-ups for the fol­low­ing activ­it­ies: NERF soc­cer for boys and girls age 6 to 8, in-house soc­cer for girls age 9 to 12, and in-house bas­ket­ball for boys age 9 to 13.

PRCG to meet   

The Port Rich­mond Com­munity Group will meet on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady Help of Chris­ti­ans’ Church Hall, Al­legheny Av­en­ue at Gaul Street. 

The group will dis­cuss the pro­gress of the city’s Land Bank cre­ation, as well as changes to State Rep. John Taylor’s scrap met­al le­gis­la­tion. Loc­al band to play at Moth­er of Di­vine Grace

Loc­al band The Ex­cep­tions will per­form at the Moth­er of Di­vine Grace church hall on Sat­urday, Jan. 25 from 8 p.m. to 12 p.m. Tick­ets cost $30 and all money raised will go to the Moth­er of Di­vine Grace par­ish and school. Com­munity din­ner

On Sat­urday, Jan. 25, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., First Pres­by­teri­an Church, 418 E. Gir­ard Ave., in Fishtown, will host a free (no strings at­tached) com­munity din­ner. This is an op­por­tun­ity for the com­munity to grab a hot, home-cooked meal and share in fel­low­ship with oth­er people. This month’s menu in­cludes meatloaf, ve­get­ables, ma­car­oni and cheese, desserts and drinks. Break­fast at St. Lauren­ti­us

Join the stu­dents and fac­ulty of St. Lauren­ti­us School, Holy Name of Je­sus Par­ish on Sunday, Janu­ary 26 for a com­munity break­fast cel­eb­rat­ing the start of Cath­ol­ic Schools Week.  Break­fast will be served after the 9:30 a.m. Mass in the St. Lauren­ti­us Church Hall. Fol­low­ing break­fast, at­tendees are in­vited to take a tour of the school fea­tur­ing the stu­dents “It’s A Small World” ex­hib­it. The cost is $10 for adults, $4 for chil­dren and St. Lauren­ti­us School stu­dents are free. The fam­ily price is $25.  ••

Town hall meet­ing

The 26th Po­lice Dis­trict and River­Wards Crime­watch will host a town hall meet­ing cov­er­ing crime trends and stat­ist­ics for 2013 on Monday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at the First Pres­by­teri­an Church, 418 E. Gir­ard Ave. There will be a present­a­tion fol­lowed by a ques­tion and an­swer ses­sion.  Rep­res­ent­at­ives will be on hand from the 26th Po­lice Dis­trict as well as the Dis­trict At­tor­ney’s of­fice. ••

Flap­jack fun­draiser 

A flap­jack fun­draiser for the Ladies of Port Rich­mond Breast Can­cer Chapter will be held on Feb. 8 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The cost is $7 per per­son. Kick­sUSA Grand Open­ing

Shoe store Kick­sUSA in Port Rich­mond, 2499 Ara­mingo Ave., will host a free com­munity cel­eb­ra­tion com­mem­or­at­ing its grand open­ing on Feb. 8 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hip Hop/R&B ra­dio per­son­al­ity QDeezy of HOT 107.9 FM will be in at­tend­ance and Kick­sUSA will have sales throughout the day. The first 25 people in line will re­ceive a $25 store gift cer­ti­fic­ate. There will be T-shirts and oth­er giveaways. ••

First-time home­buy­ers work­shop  

Con­cilio hosts a free monthly homeown­er­ship work­shop to edu­cate the com­munity on how to be­come suc­cess­ful homeown­ers and pre­vent po­ten­tial fore­clos­ure on Tues­day, Feb. 11, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Top­ics ad­dressed in­clude budget­ing, cred­it re­pair, mort­gage and the pur­chase pro­cess. Phil­adelphia res­id­ents who at­tend the work­shop will po­ten­tially be eli­gible for a city grant that as­sists qual­i­fied pur­chasers with their home clos­ing costs. Vo­lun­teer on the farm 

Greens­grow Farms is hold­ing a vo­lun­teer day on Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vo­lun­teers are in­vited to help with winter pro­jects such as clean­ing up the prop­erty, work­ing on the cut­ting garden and beds, clean­ing and sharpen­ing tools, start­ing winter prun­ing tasks and set­ting up for open­ing day. Craft classes in Kens­ing­ton

Arts and crafts classes for adults are be­ing offered in the Stu­dio at Beacon on Wed­nes­day even­ings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

North­east Cath­ol­ic Alumni Me­mori­al Schol­ar­ship Fund

The fund will be ac­cept­ing nom­in­a­tions for tu­ition as­sist­ance grants un­til Jan. 31, 2014. The nom­in­ees must be the chil­dren or grand­chil­dren of dues-pay­ing mem­bers of North­east Cath­ol­ic Alumni As­so­ci­ation Inc. The fund awards $261,000 in grants each year.
