Frankford man arrested in two robberies

A Frank­ford man has been ar­res­ted for rob­bing two Cen­ter City banks and an­oth­er in May­fair early last month.

Mem­bers of the Phil­adelphia Po­lice Ma­jor Crimes/FBI Vi­ol­ent Crimes Task Force ar­res­ted Wil­li­am Ed­wards, 32, on Dec. 17 at his home on the 4400 block of E. Win­go­hock­ing St. Ed­wards al­legedly used de­mand notes to rob the PNC Bank at 1801 Mar­ket St. on Dec. 2, the Cit­izens Bank at 7327 Frank­ford Ave. on Dec. 9 and the Susque­hanna Bank at 1845 Wal­nut St. on Dec. 13.

In­vest­ig­at­ors re­leased sur­veil­lance pho­tos of the rob­ber soon after the ini­tial heist and re­ceived nu­mer­ous tips from the pub­lic on Dec. 3. In­vest­ig­at­ors learned Ed­wards’ where­abouts on Dec. 17. That af­ter­noon, mem­bers of the task force and the Phil­adelphia High­way Patrol ar­res­ted the sus­pect without in­cid­ent. ••
