FBI seeks immigrants for scam investigation

Federal authorities are seeking to contact immigrants to the United States who may have had contact with any of several Ukrainian companies that are now under investigation for their suspected mishandling of government funds.

The FBI is working with the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs and the U.S. Department of State on the case. Authorities would like to speak with people who have come to the U.S. through the Diversity Visa Lottery or Green Card Lottery system and who obtained assistance from any of the following companies: Hermes, United, Diaspora, Immigratsiyniy Mist or Terna Credit Union. Former clients of those Western Ukrainian companies are asked to call the FBI at 844–250–8545.

The investigation has revealed that clients may have been “victimized” by one or more of the companies, according to the FBI. The Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs is working to recover funds paid to the companies as a result of their Green Card Lottery business. The ministry hopes to re-disburse any recovered funds to victimized customers.

The FBI has language specialists to assist those who need interpreters. Authorities did not provide additional details about the case, citing the ongoing investigation. ••
