Plenty to do in Mayfair

The May­fair Busi­ness As­so­ci­ation, May­fair Civic As­so­ci­ation and May­fair Com­munity De­vel­op­ment Cor­por­a­tion are pro­mot­ing a num­ber of up­com­ing events.

The fourth an­nu­al East­er egg hunt will take place on Sat­urday, April 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at May­fair Me­mori­al Play­ground, Row­land Av­en­ue and Vista Street. The East­er Bunny will at­tend. The rain date is Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

A weekly farm­ers’ mar­ket will re­turn on Sunday, May 4, and con­tin­ue through Oct. 26 along Ry­an Av­en­ue, near Frank­ford Av­en­ue.

On the third Thursday of the month from May to Oc­to­ber, there will be a block party/street fest­iv­al in the area of Frank­ford and Cottman av­en­ues. At­trac­tions in­clude ar­tis­ans, crafters, live mu­sic, a farm stand and food trucks.

The fifth an­nu­al May­fair Fallen Her­oes Run is set for Sat­urday, May 17, at 8 a.m. The route in­cludes Frank­ford Av­en­ue and res­id­en­tial streets. The honoree will be Fire Capt. John Taylor, who died in a Port Rich­mond fire in 2004. 

That same day will be the May­fair May Fair, start­ing at noon. There will be live mu­sic, ar­tis­ans, crafters, vendors, face paint­ing and bal­loon an­im­als near Frank­ford and Cottman.

Mean­while, the Pennypack Park Mu­sic Fest­iv­al will be­gin on May 7 and con­tin­ue through Sept. 10. For a lineup of per­formers, vis­it

The shuttered Devon Theat­er was re­cently bought by an Ar­d­more firm for $487,000, which is con­sidered a bar­gain be­cause the in­teri­or is so mod­ern. The com­pany has no spe­cif­ic plans for the site. The build­ing could be sold again.

The May­fair Busi­ness As­so­ci­ation will meet again on Thursday, April 10, at 10 a.m. at Be­ne­fi­cial Bank, 7262 Frank­ford Ave. ••
