Plenty to do in Mayfair

The Mayfair Business Association, Mayfair Civic Association and Mayfair Community Development Corporation are promoting a number of upcoming events.

The fourth annual Easter egg hunt will take place on Saturday, April 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mayfair Memorial Playground, Rowland Avenue and Vista Street. The Easter Bunny will attend. The rain date is Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.

A weekly farmers’ market will return on Sunday, May 4, and continue through Oct. 26 along Ryan Avenue, near Frankford Avenue.

On the third Thursday of the month from May to October, there will be a block party/street festival in the area of Frankford and Cottman avenues. Attractions include artisans, crafters, live music, a farm stand and food trucks.

The fifth annual Mayfair Fallen Heroes Run is set for Saturday, May 17, at 8 a.m. The route includes Frankford Avenue and residential streets. The honoree will be Fire Capt. John Taylor, who died in a Port Richmond fire in 2004.

That same day will be the Mayfair May Fair, starting at noon. There will be live music, artisans, crafters, vendors, face painting and balloon animals near Frankford and Cottman.

Meanwhile, the Pennypack Park Music Festival will begin on May 7 and continue through Sept. 10. For a lineup of performers, visit www.pennypack.org

The shuttered Devon Theater was recently bought by an Ardmore firm for $487,000, which is considered a bargain because the interior is so modern. The company has no specific plans for the site. The building could be sold again.

The Mayfair Business Association will meet again on Thursday, April 10, at 10 a.m. at Beneficial Bank, 7262 Frankford Ave. ••
