NE woman receives inspiration award

LaR­honda Brun­son, of the North­east, is the first win­ner of JEVS Hu­man Ser­vices’ In­spir­a­tion Award.

Brun­son was honored at the 15th an­nu­al JEVS Strictly Busi­ness Awards ce­re­mony at the Sheraton Hotel in Cen­ter City. The lunch­eon at­trac­ted about 650 people.

The award is giv­en to an in­di­vidu­al who per­severed through life’s obstacles.

Brun­son is a gradu­ate of Or­leans Tech­nic­al In­sti­tute’s hu­man ser­vices pro­gram. She turned an in­tern­ship at Gaud­en­zia Inc., a drug-and-al­co­hol-treat­ment pro­gram, in­to a job as a house man­ager and, after be­ing pro­moted, to a ca­reer as a coun­selor as­sist­ant.

As a youth grow­ing up in South­w­est Phil­adelphia, she over­came a vari­ety of is­sues, then worked in the ca­ter­ing in­dustry. She cred­its her faith and en­roll­ment in the hu­man ser­vices pro­gram as life-chan­ging ex­per­i­ences. ••
