The presentation was made on April 15 as Crossan students, staff and school advisory council president Nancy Ostroff gathered in the yard before classes started for the day.

“It’s an incredible achievement, and it deserves recognition from the state House,” Boyle said.

Millard won $20,000 for her school, and plans to use it to upgrade technology in the classrooms and the computer lab. She was honored during a ceremony this past Tuesday at the Wilma Theater.

Millard has worked for the School District of Philadelphia for 27 years. She’s been principal for the last five years.

Meanwhile, Crossan fourth-grader Andrew McShea was the runner-up in the second annual Presidents Day Essay Contest, sponsored by state Rep. Brendan Boyle.

Andrew wrote about John F. Kennedy. Last year, he and his family visited the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum when his dad, Kevin, was running in the Boston Marathon.

Andrew received a certificate of achievement signed by Reps. Brendan Boyle and Kevin Boyle, and the school will treat Andrew’s classroom to a pizza party. He was joined in the presentation by his dad; his mom, Kristy; and his sister, Allison, a Crossan first-grader. ••
