Senior fair on Saturday

State Rep. Jared Solomon will hold a senior fair on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. William hall, 6200 Rising Sun Ave.

The entrance is at Argyle and Robbins streets.

There will be state and local government resources, representatives from hospitals and insurance companies, local businesses, senior homes, light refreshments, free flu and COVID-19 vaccines, expired medicine disposal, a presentation on scam prevention and blood pressure screenings.

Henon holding upcoming events

City Councilman Bobby Henon will be holding several upcoming events.

Bobby’s Bingo Bonanza will be Wednesday, Sept. 22, from 3-5 p.m. at Innovage Life Center, 4401 Megargee St. The day will include an early dinner.

Bobby’s Pin & Pizza, for senior citizens, is set for Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thunderbird Lanes, 3075 Holme Ave. Registration is required.

Bingo resumes at senior center

The Rosemary Montagno Senior Center, 12601 Townsend Road, has reopened after being closed since March 2020.

The center opens weekdays for activities, including bingo, at 10 a.m.

The kitchen remains closed.

Program on first ladies

America’s first ladies will be the theme of a special four-part historical series offered to active older adults 50 years and above at KleinLife, 10100 Jamison Ave., on Mondays, Oct. 4, 11 and 18 and Nov. 1, from noon to 1:15 p.m. The public is invited.

Opening meeting for Sisterhood

The Sisterhood of Congregations of Shaare Shamayim, 9768 Verree Road, will be holding its annual opening meeting on Zoom on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m.

The program will feature special guest speaker Louis Schmidt, author of The Untold Story of How The Stories Were Told. Schmidt worked as an interviewer for Steven Spielberg for the Shoah Project. Nashville-Memphis trip with Polish American Cultural Center 

Polish American Cultural Center Happy Travelers are organizing a seven-day trip to Nashville and Memphis from Oct. 10-16.

The trip will include two nights in Gaylords Opryland, tickets to the Grand Ole Opry, Elvis experience in Graceland with a tour of his mansion, a guided tour of Nashville and guided tour of Memphis.

Thomas Junior High reunion set for Oct. 2

An all-class reunion for the former George C. Thomas Junior High School will take place on Oct. 2, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Galdo’s, 20th Street and Moyamensing Avenue.

Thomas opened in 1920 at 9th and Johnston streets. It became Mastery Charter School in 2009.

Upcoming bus trip, cruise

The Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation is sponsoring a bus trip to the Mt. Hope Estate’s holiday dinner theater in Manheim, Lancaster County, on Nov. 29. Cost is $115.

The group is sponsoring a cruise to Charleston and Bermuda, June 2-12, 2022, on the Celebrity Summit, sailing from Cape Liberty, in North Jersey. Rates range from $1,577 to $2,387 per person, double occupancy.

Rallying for life

The Northeast Philadelphia Pro-Life Coalition will hold a 40 Days For Life campaign at Planned Parenthood, 2751 Comly Road, from Sept. 29 to Nov. 7.

The prayerful protest will run daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition, there will be a pro-life Mass on Sunday, Oct. 3, at noon at St. Martha Church, 11301 Academy Road.

Bus heading to March for Life

The first Pennsylvania March for Life will take place on Monday, Sept. 27, in Harrisburg.

There will be a rally at the front steps of the Capitol at 11 a.m. followed by a march around the Capitol building at noon.

A bus will leave at 8:45 a.m. in the parking lot of St. Katherine of Siena Church, 9700 Frankford Ave.
