Drivers already used to what seem to be permanent delays on I-95 will see some more from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday when southbound lanes will be reduced from three to two lanes between Academy Road and Bridge Street for installation of sewer pipes.
In addition, the intersection of State Road and Cottman Avenue will be closed to all but westbound Cottman Avenue traffic from Friday, Sept. 6, to Monday, Sept. 9, as crews rebuild and improve the intersection to accommodate a new on-ramp to I-95 south from eastbound Cottman Avenue. Construction of the new on-ramp will start in 2014.
From 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, State Road will be closed to through traffic between Friendship Street and Bleigh Avenue. Eastbound Cottman Avenue will be closed to through traffic between James Street and State Road. Westbound Cottman Avenue will remain open for traffic exiting I-95 north at the interchange. State Road motorists will be detoured along Milnor Street and Bleigh Avenue. Eastbound Cottman Avenue traffic will be detoured south on Torresdale Avenue to Princeton Avenue.
Magee Avenue also is now closed between Keystone Street and New State Road until 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, for construction on the I-95 overpass. Motorists normally using this route will be detoured along Keystone Street and Longshore Avenue.
