Lot owner faces jail, fine in asbestos-removal case

A Northeast commercial real estate owner is facing the possibility of decades in federal prison and a $1.25 million fine after a grand jury indicted him last week for removing asbestos in violation of the Clean Air Act.


Man allegedly raped 12-year-old runaway

A Pottstown man is facing child rape charges after he allegedly picked up a 12-year-old runaway in Frankford, took her to a Northeast motel and forced her to have sex with him. Police arrested George Williams, 40, at his home on Aug. 28. According to court records, he is charged with rape, unlawful contact with a minor, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, corruption of a minor, indecent assault with a person younger than 13 and indecent exposure.


Mother arrested after leaving child in car

Walmart didn’t announce her name over the store intercom, but one Olney mother got the attention of plenty of shoppers on Aug. 26 when she allegedly left her year-old daughter alone inside a locked and sun-baked car for a half-hour or more.


The New Year: Looking forward, looking back

Port Richmond mother attacked, recovering at home

Barbara Zimath is very lucky she wasn't hurt worse in an attack last week, in which two men beat her and stole her purse and phone. Still, the incident has rattled her family, as well as many locals who are wondering how something so violent could happen where they live.
