BHS meet­ing to­night

The next meet­ing of the Brides­burg His­tor­ic­al So­ci­ety will be held  to­night at 7:30 p.m. in Mari­an Hall on the north­w­est corner of Bucki­us and Ed­ge­mont Streets. The present­a­tion will be “The Farms of Brides­burg Bor­ough - 1850.”  Ad­mis­sion is free, and re­fresh­ments will be served. ••

PennDOT’s Brides­burg meet­ing

PennDOT will host an open house re­gard­ing I-95 im­prove­ments that will af­fect the neigh­bor­hood. This meet­ing will take place on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brides­burg Boys and Girls Club, 2901 Bridge St. ••

Bus ser­vice for Seni­or Expo

Rep. John Taylor will have bus ser­vice avail­able for his Seni­or Expo on Fri­day, Oct. 11, which will be held at the Co­hock­sink Re­cre­ation Cen­ter, Ce­dar and Cam­bria Streets, 10 a.m. to noon. 

The bus ser­vice will be­gin at the Ju­ni­ata Seni­or Cen­ter, L and Sedgely streets, at 9:30 a.m.; Our Ladies of Port Rich­mond, E. Al­legheny Av­en­ue and E. Thompson Street, at 9:50 a.m.; and St. Anne’s Seni­or Cen­ter, 2608 E. Cum­ber­land St., at 10 a.m. The bus will re­turn every­one at 11:30 a.m. ••

Oc­to­ber’s Second Sat­urday

Oc­to­ber’s Second Sat­urday in Port Rich­mond will fea­ture a pump­kin art con­test and show­case. Join in on the fun on Oct. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m., on the 3100 block of Rich­mond St., between Al­legheny Av­en­ue and Clear­field St. 

For chil­dren, bring a painted pump­kin to be show­cased on Rich­mond Street the day of the event. For adults, bring your cre­at­ively carved pump­kin to be judged in our ‘Best Pump­kin on Rich­mond St.’ con­test.

NK­CDC fall cleanup

Help your loc­al civic as­so­ci­ations and NK­CDC tidy up the neigh­bor­hood Sat­urday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Neigh­bor­hood Fall Cleanup. There will be a free BBQ af­ter­wards for all vo­lun­teers.

The 12th an­nu­al Great Fishtown Spelling Bee is set for Fri­day, Oct. 25 at 3:30 p.m., at Shissler Rec. Cen­ter. The com­pet­i­tion is open to stu­dents from grades 2-8.  

As al­ways, the com­pet­i­tion is free and open to any stu­dent from any school in Phil­adelphia. ••

Girl Scouts haunted house
