Police seek smash-and-grab serial burglar

Po­lice are try­ing to identi­fy a smash-and-grab burg­lar who may be re­spons­ible for a dozen burg­lar­ies of North­east busi­nesses since Oct. 4.

In each case, the crook ac­cessed the un­oc­cu­pied shops by shat­ter­ing glass in the front door with a rock, brick or un­known ob­ject. Most of the crimes have oc­curred in the pre-dawn morn­ing hours.

The spree began on Oct. 4 at the Crick­et phone store on the 6500 block of Frank­ford Ave. and con­tin­ued with the fol­low­ing loc­a­tions and dates: Ver­ree Mini Mar­ket, 7900 Ver­ree Road, on Oct. 11; Solly Pizza, 8100 Bustleton Ave., on Oct. 13; Big Daddy Pizza, 1900 Welsh Road, on Oct. 13; DT Nails & Spa, 15500 Bustleton Ave., on Oct. 13; Bob’s Hair Design, 7900 Dun­gan Road, on Oct. 15; Ver­ree Ex­press Pizza, 7900 Ver­ree Road, on Oct. 15; Dog Groom­ing Zone, 7700 Castor Ave., on Oct. 16; Ex­tra Video store, 9400 State Road, on Oct. 18; Al Sham Res­taur­ant, 6700 Bustleton Ave., on Oct. 18; No. 1 China Res­taur­ant, 3300 Grant Ave., on Oct. 18; and Ra­dio Shack, 6400 Sack­ett St., on Oct. 20. 

The burg­lar has been seen op­er­at­ing a white Pon­tiac with tin­ted win­dows  and a black Hy­undai Santa Fe. He was de­scribed as white, 30 years old and 6 feet tall. He has been seen wear­ing blue pants or sweat­pants, a blue sweat­shirt, a gray sweat­shirt, a black or dark base­ball cap with a white design and tan boots.
