The national gold medal she earned was her first. She has a total of five golds, two silvers and one bronze from the state and local levels.

Medalists from next year’s Pennsylvania games in Hershey get invited to the 2015 National Senior Games in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Kalanty said. “It’s a wonderful way to keep fit, and you meet so many great people through friendly competition.”

Kalanty likes all sports, and celebrated her 80th birthday by winning a first-place trophy and medal in a 5K race. ••
