Improvements to Benjamin Rush State Park at Southampton Road and the Boulevard are almost complete.
Just a few small jobs need to be done to put Rush, the city’s only state park, at 100 percent before a ribbon-cutting ceremony can be held.
But that’s only a formality.
The hiking and biking trails are in use; the community garden that was part of the park before work began had a productive season; and the radio-controlled model airplane club members are flying.
Upgrades to Rush’s 275 previously underused or fallow acres include the walking and biking trails, a new entrance on Southampton Road, a paved road that winds through the park and a comfort station. Battered old Burling Avenue, which used to cut through Rush, is gone.
One of the last details to be addressed is getting the comfort station functioning. ••
