NE man arrested in string of burglaries

Po­lice on Monday an­nounced the ar­rest of a North­east man for break­ing in­to at least sev­en area busi­nesses last month.

Howard Jac­ob­son, 40, of the 2500 block of Welsh Road, al­legedly burg­lar­ized two Fox Chase shops on Oct. 15 at about 2 a.m. The first oc­curred at Bob’s Hair Design, 7966 Dun­gan Road, when Jac­ob­son al­legedly parked his black Hy­undai Santa Fe out­side the shop, smashed the glass front door, grabbed a cash re­gister draw­er and fled.

Minutes later, Jac­ob­son al­legedly showed up in the same vehicle at Ver­ree Ex­press Pizza, 7959 Ver­ree Road, smashed the glass door and tampered with a cash re­gister. A sur­veil­lance cam­era filmed Jac­ob­son car­ry­ing a cash re­gister draw­er out­side the pizzer­ia be­fore he broke in­to the busi­ness, po­lice said.

In­vest­ig­at­ors re­covered sur­veil­lance video from both crime scenes and re­leased it to the pub­lic on Oct. 22. Tip­sters iden­ti­fied Jac­ob­son as the cul­prit.

One day later, Jac­ob­son al­legedly as­saul­ted po­lice on the 900 block of E. Tioga St. and was ar­res­ted. Since then, de­tect­ives have linked him to ad­di­tion­al burg­lar­ies in the areas of 9400 State Road, 6700 Bustleton Ave., 6400 Sack­ett St. and 2500 Welsh Road. ••
